REDS COME UP SHORT... FALL TO TIGERS, 14-10 |
|
|
The Reds rode a hot-streak into the playoffs but fizzled in two games, eliminated after losing their third game of the season to the Tigers.
The Tigers jumped on the Reds in the first inning for three runs but the Reds quickly got those runs back in their half of the first. Michael Carr, Alex Suzuki and Jamie Millar each brought runs home with hits to tie the game at three.
In the second, the Tigers exploded for a big six run inning that put the Reds on their heels. Two errors in the inning helped the Tigers cause. The Reds failed to push any runs across in the second, going three up and three down.
The Reds drew closer in the third when Millar blasted a shot deep to centerfield for a two-run homer. But as they did all game whenever the Reds got close, the Tigers responded. They did so with two runs in the fourth to make it a 11-5 game. The Reds responded with three of their own in the fourth, the big blow being a two run double by Spencer Lee.
The Reds tried to mount a comeback in the sixth but managed to push only two runs across the plate, not enough to catch the pesky Tigers who moved on in the playoffs.
The Reds ended the season with an 8-6 record that saw several breakthrough performances. The highlight of the season clearly was a win over the Blue Jays, their first and only loss of the regular season.
